HCL stands for Hydrochloric Acid. Hydrochloric Acid requires HDPE storage tanks molded to 1.9 SG and can use PVC or PP fittings with Viton gaskets. Also known as muriatic acid, hydrochloric acid is used to acidize petroleum wells, remove scales from boilers, aid in ore reduction and serve as a chemical intermediate, among other applications.

This strongly pungent liquid is a highly corrosive acid, thus it presents serious storage challenges: (1) With an extremely low pH, Hydrochloric acid is highly corrosive. (2) The strong chemical creates toxic and corrosive fumes which can both be fatal to employees and corrode or deteriorate equipment . Therefore, you must control the chemical’s fumes and venting or vapor scrubbing systems must be exact. (3) HCL Storage Tank maintenance can also be an issue due to the  fuming. Because entering the tank must be avoided at all costs, then part replacement must be minimized.

Here is how the system works: There is a big storage tank for the HCL acid which is attached to a then there is a smaller tank called a scrubber.  The big tank will have a vent link coming off of it into the scrubber (HCL fumes are hazardous and the EPA says you cannot release the fumes directly into the atmosphere). The HCL vapor scrubber will have a mixture of water and sodium hydroxide to neutralize the fumes and then they are vented up into the atmosphere after they are deemed safe. 

The HCL Vapor Scrubber system is made to fit on any hydrochloric (HCL) acid storage tank and can be used to neutralize any kind of HCL fumes.  The vapor scrubber is made out of high-density polyethylene, including polyethylene bolts and schedule 80 PVC fittings.
